HD1500 Monitor Simulator

Komatsu America was in need of an interactive tool to explain the monitor panels in their latest dump trucks, articulated dump trucks and wheel loaders. In the past a group of operators was trained inside an actual machine cabine. Which wasn't very practical to say the least. The learning curve for monitor panels in this type of machinery is rather steep.

Objectives

• Develop an interactive application that dramatically reduces the threshold to experiment with all functions.
• Komatsu needs a software application that identically simulates every function and feature of the real monitor panel.
• Create the application in such a way that it can be used in several languages (including English, Japanese, Swedish, ...)

Results

• We turned this simulator into a fullscreen multilingual (including English, Japanese, Swedish, etc.) application.
• The application was entirely built in Flash, with an XML-based substructure, what makes it highly flexible and lightweight.
• The simulator is now successfully used worldwide by Komatsu's training department to educate service engineers, sales people, clients and operators.
